This post is really to explain what I have in mind for this blog. I'm starting with myself so I can include the families of both my mother and father. Of course, that means it is also the genealogy for my brother and sister. Everyone else will have to figure out where they fit in. As I type my mother's journal into the post about her, I can see that a journal is a great way to document a life, and I have been inspired to write a much shorter version of my own life that I will add here when I get caught up.
My mother began collecting genealogy information many years ago, which is, I suppose, why I became interested. Our family's Mormon history led to quite a bit of the genealogical records my mother discovered, but the internet has opened up a whole new world for family research.
Fortunately, back in the 1980s, I gathered stories from my grandparents and a great aunt, which will add so much to what I can share here of recent family. My goal is not just to collect the facts of who they were and the dates of their births and deaths, but to try to bring their lives to life for us now. With that in mind, I will try to share a bit of the history that they lived.
I have discovered records of hundreds of people, and there seem to be many more to discover. Most of these are just everyday people whose lives didn't merit a place in historical records. However, we do have some ancestors who did leave their mark, such as Bray Wilkins, who had his granddaughter's husband hung as a witch in Salem, Massachusetts. (That was mean of me because I won't get to him for quite a while, but you can Google him if you can't wait.)
Each post will focus on a single person, but I won't post anything unless I can find out some interesting tidbit about the person. Most posts will probably be fairly short, but a few will include journals or other interesting information that will make them quite long. I hope you will enjoy reading this information as much as I am enjoying discovering it all.
If I can find the information, I will include date and place of birth and death, place of burial, marriages, brothers and sisters, and children's names and dates of birth.
I suggest that you subscribe to receive email updates when I share a new post.
